I am a astrophysics researcher based at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia.

I love to study twinkling galaxies, baby black holes and I’m working on the next radio colour view of our sky, the GLEAM-X Survey.

A queer, neurodivergent scientist

I am proudly bisexual and agender and in 2021 I was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

I have spent a lot of time working to feel comfortable bringing my entire self to work and every aspect of my life, but I still have much to learn. I want to help create work environments in academia where other neurodivergent people and members of the LGBTQIA+ community feel safe and comfortable. Part of this has been learning what I need to feel safe and understanding what things can help create the most welcoming environment for me. I have written about being queer and neurodivergent in academia for SpaceAustralia.com and often create tiktoks communicating my best tips.

The #IncludeHer Movement

I am a strong advocate for working towards a welcoming and encouraging scientific community. Science is a human endeavour not a male endeavour so we should be teaching it as such. In 2017, I founded the #IncludeHer movement after learning there are no women included in the NSW high school science courses. Since then, it has grown to a national campaign with a dozen volunteers around Australia working to correct high school courses to include a more accurate and diverse representation of scientists. We are also working to develop resources to help teachers have the hard conversation of gender bias and discrimination in science within their classrooms.
